FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Booklover is a bedside table designed for those who enjoy reading before falling asleep. Inspired by the open structure of the sabangtakja, a traditional Korean table, it integrates reading, lighting, and storage into a single restrained structure. Rather than treating tradition simply as a symbolic reference, the project explores how the structural principles and atmosphere of traditional Korean furniture can continue naturally within contemporary living environments. The work focuses on proportion, balance, openness, and the relationship between objects and space. Constructed from solid walnut with brass details, the upper lighting system provides adjustable brightness and color temperature for reading and rest. The softly diffused light creates a calm atmosphere for reflection and relaxation before sleep. Positioned beneath the light, the brass book holder is designed to hold a book with ease, even while lying in bed, while also functioning as a bookmark. Booklover reflects an approach to furniture that considers it not only as a functional object, but also as part of the atmosphere and rhythm of everyday life. Through its open structure and restrained expression, the project seeks to reinterpret traditional Korean aesthetics within a contemporary context. This work received the Bronze A’ Design Award in the Furniture Design category at the 2025–2026 A’ Design Award.
