Constructing The Intangible views memory as reconstruction rather than preservation. Inspired by pomelo flowers, it uses architectural elements to transform intangible sensory experiences into visible spatial structures.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The A' Design Award is held annually in Como, Italy. Recently, it was officially announced that designer Yuanying He's work Constructing The Intangible won the Iron A' Design Award in this year's "Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design" category. Regarded as one of the benchmarks in the European design industry, the award aims to recognize outstanding works that possess high originality, technical maturity, and contribute to the global design field. Among thousands of entries from around the world, Yuanying He's work was highly recognized by the international jury for its unique way of integrating rational logic with perceptual observation. The winning work Constructing The Intangible is a deep conceptual visual exploration. This series challenges people's traditional understanding of memory, viewing it as an active, constructive behavior rather than a static extraction process. The creative inspiration stems from the designer's childhood experience of the fleeting scent of pomelo flowers. To materialize this intangible sensory experience, Yuanying He ingeniously used metaphorically colored architectural elements such as flowers, tower cranes, grids, and misaligned stairs in the imagery, spatially deconstructing and recombining the internal structure of recollection. Here, memory is presented as an active, proactive behavior, building and establishing current self-identity by continuously piecing together fragments of the past. Through the form of digital illustration, a profound dialogue is established between the structural nature of technology and the fluidity of human emotion. The core of Yuanying He's personal design philosophy lies in the belief that the most effective design should influence the viewer in a subtle and harmonious way. This is a resonant communication, rather than a condescending, declarative presentation. This restrained and introverted aesthetics runs through the entire Constructing The Intangible project. In the processing of the visual imagery, the designer uses the contrast between fresh, bright sky blue and light yellow to establish visual tension and emotional resonance, enabling the work to contain immense emotional energy within its tranquility. As a creator with a forward-looking perspective, Yuanying He views design as a practice of returning to the essence of things, which is honest and effective communication. In current visual culture, the design industry is often accustomed to using exaggeration and over-packaging to attract attention, whereas this work presents a powerful reflection on this tendency and re-emphasizes the importance of visual clarity, information consistency, and emotional credibility. Through precise control over visual details and a continuous spirit of experimentation, the designer hopes to make a substantial contribution to building a contemporary visual culture with deeper thought. In this ideal cultural context, design is no longer merely an appendage of commerce, but a bridge that can foster deeper, purer, and more honest connections between creators, media materials, and the broad audience. Winning this award is not only an affirmation of professional capability but also an international acclaim for this sincere design aesthetics.
