An exhibition of sound art, "Listening to Transparency," by designer Xulei Li, is set to captivate audiences with its innovative visual and audio experience.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The "Listening to Transparency" exhibition, curated by designer Xulei Li, is a groundbreaking showcase of 44 audio and visual art works that focus on spatialization design. The exhibition, held at the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum, ran from May to September 2017, offering a unique exploration of transparency and sound.
The visual design of the exhibition is inspired by circular waves representing sound sources, utilizing various angles, curvatures, and colors. The transparent look of the visuals mirrors the materials used in the art pieces, symbolizing the transient and untouchable nature of sound. The font, presented in traditional Song style, adds an aura of Chinese culture, while the color scheme reflects the cultural exchange between China and France.
What sets this exhibition apart is the innovative production technique, where the font and circular sound wave elements are separated and then combined to create a complete visual. This design choice encourages audience engagement, as they are drawn to the title and theme of the exhibition before being captivated by the revealed sound waves.
The realization of this unique design involved special color printing techniques, including silk-screen printing on transparent PVC material and Risograph technology for the sound wave elements. The exhibition materials, such as the invitation, book, poster, and tickets, were meticulously designed to provide a cohesive and immersive experience for visitors.
Furthermore, the exhibition offers an interactive element, allowing attendees to access additional digital content by scanning the poster or key visuals with a dedicated app, providing a deeper insight into the promotional film of the exhibition.
Xulei Li's "Listening to Transparency" exhibition not only presents a visually stunning and conceptually rich experience but also challenges the traditional boundaries of art and design, earning the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2020. This recognition highlights the exhibition's outstanding creativity and its contribution to the enhancement of quality of life through art, science, and technology.
