Iedde: Redefining Tradition with the Mussel Knife Redesign

ITALY -- /DESIGN/newswire -- Aug 18, 2022

Giuliano Ricciardi introduces Iedde, a modern take on the traditional Taranto black mussel knife, paying homage to Slow Food Presidium

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Iedde: The Modern Grammella

Giuliano Ricciardi's Iedde is a re-edition of the traditional grammella, inspired by the Taranto black mussel, a recognized Slow Food Presidium. The design breathes new life into an anonymous object born out of necessity, infusing it with contemporary aesthetics and functionality while honoring local traditions.

The ergonomics of Iedde are a testament to its thoughtful redesign, with a focus on ease of use and handling. Crafted from ma5mv stainless steel and olive wood, the knife's components are meticulously assembled to create a harmonious and iconic tool that embodies the maritime culture of Taranto.

The production process involves laser cutting technology for the blades, CNC machining for the handle, and meticulous assembly and finishing, resulting in a numbered, handcrafted piece that represents a modern gift for the city of Taranto.
