Muuk Design Associates unveils Moonshine, a Brutalist cafe design in Taipei, Taiwan, challenging the possibilities of concrete in urban commercial spaces.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Muuk Design Associates has unveiled Moonshine, a cafe design in the style of Brutalism, located in Taipei, Taiwan. The project, completed in June 2020, challenges the possibilities of concrete in urban commercial spaces. The design principle of simplicity is evident in the exclusion of superfluous decorations, allowing the space to blend seamlessly into the bustling city scene.
The cafe's unique properties lie in its raw concrete, hammered surface, and patterns created with a cement spatula, showcasing the supreme architectural craftsmanship of Brutalism. The spatial arrangements facilitate bodily movements and vision throughout the space, providing a view of and exchange with the factory space, the heart of the cafe.
Muuk deliberately carved out spaces for interaction, such as areas with different seating heights and an extended communal bar top and bench. The project, winner of the Bronze A' Design Award in 2022, demonstrates the studio's commitment to challenging the possibilities of creativity in commercial spaces.
