Renowned designer HONG-YU OU breathes new life into a 40-year-old residence, enhancing transparency and functionality with the "Grasp the Light" project, completed in May 2018 in Taiwan.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HONG-YU OU's "Grasp the Light" project reimagines a 40-year-old residence, infusing it with a washed finish, granite, and architectural concrete on the exterior, while incorporating red bricks, cedar, and cypress inside. The narrow and long structure posed challenges, prompting the designer to open up the ceiling to draw in natural light, enhancing brightness and ventilation. The glass-made rooftop and hallway connection to the adjacent villa are standout features, fostering transparency and interaction among family members.
The use of steel frames, glass materials, and cathedral ceilings with a book wall made of solid wood adds to the project's unique appeal, creating a Zen-like minimal style. The innovative design not only addresses the original structure's limitations but also enhances safety and aesthetic appeal, earning the project the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2022.
With a focus on transparency and functionality, the "Grasp the Light" project showcases the designer's mastery in transforming old spaces into modern, inviting environments. The project's successful realization is a testament to HONG-YU OU's creative vision and technical expertise, setting a new standard for residential redesign.
