Renovation project by Yu-Nan Hou in Taiwan transforms a 40-year-old house into a bright and airy space with emphasis on natural lighting and ventilation, completed in March 2021.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Chasing Light project by Yu-Nan Hou is a remarkable renovation of a 40-year-old house in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The primary focus of the project was to improve the condition of the old house, emphasizing natural lighting and ventilation to create a bright and visually appealing space. The project was completed in March 2021, and it stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design.
The renovation project addressed the challenges posed by the long and narrow layout of the house, strategically incorporating design elements to maximize natural light and airflow. The use of transparent and light-transmitting materials, such as glass and perforated iron panels, played a crucial role in allowing daylight to permeate the interior spaces, creating a welcoming and open atmosphere.
With a total area of 145 square meters spread across three floors, the Chasing Light project successfully reimagined the layout to optimize lighting, routing, and ventilation according to the client's family living habits and needs. The innovative design solutions included transforming the first floor into a built-in garage to allow ample daylight to reach previously unlit areas and planning the private areas on the second floor to benefit from natural light.
The project's unique features, including the use of a semi-open roof on the third floor and an open and transparent staircase facade, demonstrate the designer's commitment to creating a space that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural elements. The choice of light-colored and light-transmitting materials further amplifies the visual effect of natural light, contributing to the overall ambiance of the renovated space.
Yu-Nan Hou's Chasing Light project not only overcame the challenges of renovating an old house but also introduced the client's family to a new design aesthetic centered around the concept of daylight. By skillfully integrating natural lighting and ventilation into the renovation, the project has redefined the possibilities for transforming aging structures into modern, inviting spaces.
