OOIIO Architecture Unveils Innovative Family Housing Project in Madrid
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OOIIO Architecture, led by architect JoaquÃn Millán Villamuelas, has unveiled the groundbreaking Montecarmelo Townhouses, redefining urban architecture in Madrid. Inspired by traditional sun protection systems found in vernacular architecture in southern Spain, the design features rough brick cloths that cover and protect the terraced houses from the sun, creating a unique facade that breaks the monotony of the surroundings.
The townhouses, with a build area of 586.4 m2, showcase the application of design techniques such as DalÃ's paranoid critical method, allowing the project to escape the restrictions imposed by the urban planning in Madrid neighborhoods. The main material used, rough brick cloths, was specially dimensioned and placed vertically to create a distinctive visual appeal.
Completed in March 2019, the Montecarmelo Townhouses project serves as an inspiration for new generations of architects, encouraging the development of singular architecture in urban environments. The design challenges the conventional monotony of urban housing, introducing fresh urbanism to the city.
