Mohamed Selim El Kady Unveils Atun, a Unique Lighting Product Inspired by Ancient Egyptian Symbolism

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ancient Egyptian Civilization Meets Modern Design in Atun by Mohamed Selim El Kady

Mohamed Selim El Kady, an artist renowned for breathing life into empty spaces, has unveiled Atun, a collection of lighting products that seamlessly blend ancient Egyptian aesthetics with modern design. Inspired by the Pharaonic symbol of balance, strength, and reincarnation, Djed, Atun represents a fusion of cultural and emotional design, aiming to make a positive impact on consumers.

Utilizing a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern production techniques, Atun is crafted using environment-friendly, recycled, and sustainable materials, including Asersus wood, alabaster marble, marmar stone, borosilicate glass, and gold-plated copper. The lighting products come in various dimensions, each meticulously designed to provide a uniform level of illumination while ensuring safe and easy traffic within the space.

The idea for Atun took root in 2018 and was first exhibited in October 2018, with subsequent showcases in November 2021, both at the Cairo Design Award. El Kady's vision for Atun was deeply rooted in extensive research on ancient Egyptian beliefs, particularly the significance of light and its representation in ancient Egyptian culture. The collection draws inspiration from the great Hymn of Akhtitatun to Aten, found in the tombs of Tell El-Amarna, and the Djed hieroglyph, a symbol of stability and Osiris himself.
