Pingshan Cultural Cluster Book Mall: A Fusion of Hakka Culture and Modern Design

Jiang & Associates Creative Design has unveiled the Pingshan Cultural Cluster Book Mall, a unique celebration of Hakka culture located in Pingshan District, Shenzhen City. The design draws inspiration from the distinctive style of Hakka enclosed houses, integrating the "Spirit of Place" into the concept to create a one-of-a-kind bookstore experience.

The space is divided into "Square" and "Round" zones, each catering to different demographics. The "Square" zone, targeted at young people, features a layout inspired by "Diaolou" (tower buildings) and incorporates characteristic walls and mirror finish ceilings to create an engaging environment for activities, dining, and social interaction.

The "Round" zone, designed for families and children, boasts a lively circular and curved layout. The space is divided by smooth curved book walls, creating an interactive and playful atmosphere. The design also features a white spiral staircase and artistic lighting, evoking a sense of wonder and discovery.

To convey the essence of Hakka enclosed houses, the design team collected disused wooden doors and windows from surrounding areas and engraved their textures onto the cement walls of the atrium, creating a dialogue between ancient and modern times.

Jiang & Associates Creative Design successfully overcame the challenge of connecting the space on both sides of the building by integrating the unique "Spirit of Place" essence of Hakka enclosed houses into the design concept for the "Square" and "Round" zones, creating a seamless and differentiated orientation for the Book Mall.

The Pingshan Cultural Cluster Book Mall is a testament to the firm's commitment to creating spaces that seamlessly integrate with life scenes, providing a pleasant spirit of place for visitors.
