Shih-Ming Liu's Scholar Design Studio presents Meet Fun, a modern Italian restaurant design project completed in March 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan. The project aimed to create a bright and spacious Italian-style restaurant with clean lines, open visual effect, and a warm space atmosphere, integrating the interior facade and the surrounding streetscape landscape.
The project stands out for its use of heritage materials collected by the client's family, which were transformed to create a bright and comfortable dining environment. The design also aimed to integrate the project and the local streetscape, emphasizing the brand's characteristics while displaying the cultural characteristics of the surrounding area.
The restaurant features a floor area of about 330 square meters, divided into a bar area, dining area, kitchen, and storage room. The design team utilized concrete finish, fair-faced concrete, oak wood, old tiles, steel plates, wooden tables, and leather seats to realize the project.
Despite challenges such as low ceiling height, limited building materials, and building management committee specifications, the design team successfully overcame these restrictions to present the modern Italian restaurant in a simple and bright style.
Shih-Ming Liu's Scholar Design Studio was awarded Bronze in A' Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2020 for the Meet Fun project, recognizing the innovative and creatively ingenious design that authenticates experience and resourcefulness.
