Award-winning architect Tetsuo Kawabe unveils a groundbreaking car showroom and garage in Niigata, Japan, featuring floating volumes and a suspended structure, completed in 2009.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned architect Tetsuo Kawabe, along with his team, has unveiled a revolutionary car showroom and garage project in Niigata, Japan. The design, completed in October 2009, features a striking combination of a glass showroom and two floating volumes, serving as a symbol at the entrance of a new development area.
The innovative design incorporates a 5-meter cantilever and suspension structure, creating the illusion of the volumes being supported by single-lined columns, giving the impression of floating in the air. The project, which began in November 2006, showcases Kawabe's exceptional creativity and engineering prowess.
Notably, this exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. This accolade acknowledges the project's outstanding and creative design, which authentically embodies experience and resourcefulness, contributing to significant improvements in quality of life.
Tetsuo Kawabe, the chief architect, led a talented team including assistant architect Koichi Tajima, structural engineer Tetsuo Nagahashi, and landscape designer Yoshimasa Ohishi in bringing this visionary project to life. The site's location in Niigata prefecture, Japan, further emphasizes the global impact of this innovative architectural achievement.
