ZENustas Hair Salon: A Harmonious Blend of Cultures

ZENustas Hair Salon, designed by lead architect Lorena Antea Caruana and lead local architect Naoki Watanabe, is a testament to the fusion of Japanese and Western architectural styles. The space, spanning 80 square meters, features a harmonious blend of MDF with a dark wood finish and white washable wallpaper, creating a contemporary yet simple look. The salon's standout feature is a backlit wall in polycarbonate, paying homage to traditional Japanese rice paper facades and enhancing lighting for customers seated in front of the mirrors.

The salon's design reflects a holistic approach, with a wooden floor texture that intuitively guides customers towards the hairdressing stations. The oriented walls optimize space and provide customers with unobstructed views of the surroundings without leaving their chairs. The project, located in Yaizu near Mount Fuji, took three months to complete, with the construction phase lasting only seven days.

Lorena Antea Caruana, an architect and interior designer from Milan, founded HI-DEA, an architecture and interior design firm, before moving to Japan. Her unique architectural approach combines new minimalism with nature, emphasizing sustainability and aesthetics. ZENustas Hair Salon was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its innovative and practical design that integrates industry best practices.
