Barbara Young's Wonderland Experiential Learning Center is a groundbreaking educational space designed to foster holistic growth and learning for school-age children through technology education, offering a unique and inclusive environment for diverse learners.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Barbara Young's Wonderland Experiential Learning Center is a visionary project that reimagines educational spaces for children. The design integrates elements that promote intellectual, creative, emotional, social, and physical growth, including a learning tree, private tree house booths, collaborative savanna, and climbing hills. The space aims to cater to learners with diverse backgrounds and personalities, providing hands-on, extra-curricular educational opportunities.
The conceptual rendering for the Wonderland Experiential Learning Center was created using advanced technology, including SketchUp, Enscape, and Illustrator. The proposed custom learning tree is designed for ease of fabrication with a CNC router and laser-cut wood screen inserts, showcasing the innovative approach to design and fabrication.
The conceptual design was based on repurposing an old middle school building for the Wonderland Experiential Learning Center, providing ideas to repurpose the existing gymnasium for the Wonderland Kids Café and adjacent rooms for specialty technology instruction. The space is designed to be technology-rich, with computers and WiFi available throughout, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
Barbara Young's Wonderland Experiential Learning Center is a testament to her expertise as an NCIDQ certified Interior Designer and LEED Accredited Professional. As an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Purdue University, her work explores the intersection of theory and practice, informing her approach to teaching and the classroom experiences she provides for students. Young's passion for using design to imbue dignity and respect for humans that inhabit built environments is evident in this groundbreaking project.
