Discover the unique Day Code - Chinese Almanac, a modern take on traditional Taiwanese calendars, designed to bring fortune and functionality to your daily life.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wan Fen Chen's Day Code - Chinese Almanac is a unique reinterpretation of the traditional Taiwanese calendar, offering a blend of ancestral wisdom and modern functionality. Inspired by the daily rituals of tearing off calendar pages to reveal fortunes and reminders, this design presents signs transposed from words, providing users with a visual representation of auspicious and inauspicious activities for each day.
Utilizing risograph technology and perfect binding, the compact Day Code - Chinese Almanac measures w100 mm x d36 mm x h143 mm, making it a convenient addition to any space. The design incorporates traditional Taiwanese tiles with floral patterns and iron windows, adding a touch of local heritage to the modern calendar.
Unlike traditional calendars, Day Code features intact pages with no punch holes, allowing users to interact with the design by writing reminders and notes in the provided columns. Additionally, specially designed stickers can be used to record tasks, thoughts, and wish lists, effectively transforming the calendar into a personalized diary.
Wan Fen Chen's project commenced in January 2022 and concluded in December 2022 in Taiwan. The design process involved extensive research to transpose words into comprehensive graphics, utilizing risograph technology to achieve a vintage aesthetic. The incorporation of lunar calendar dates alongside the solar calendar further enhances the calendar's functionality for daily use.
Day Code - Chinese Almanac was honored with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2022, recognizing its innovative approach to integrating traditional wisdom with modern design. Wan Fen Chen, the creative mind behind this project, is the founder of maruko design studio, dedicated to infusing Taiwanese graphic elements into everyday products, creating a unique blend of tradition and innovation.
