The Grand Egyptian Museum introduces a modern visual identity, inspired by ancient hieroglyphs, to honor the rich history of ancient Egypt while maintaining a fresh look.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Grand Egyptian Museum has revealed a new visual identity designed by Rana Hossam Gaber, paying homage to the ancient Egyptian culture while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. The logo, featuring five hieroglyphs spelling "Egypt," is a striking representation of the museum's historical significance. The primary color, black, symbolizes the banks of the Nile, while the secondary colors draw inspiration from ancient Egyptian jewelry designs. The elongated rectangular shape of the logo is reminiscent of the royal cartouche, adding a regal touch to the identity.
By incorporating hieroglyphs in the logo and signage system, the museum aims to familiarize visitors with ancient Egyptian culture in a modern and approachable manner. The project, realized during Rana Hossam Gaber's pre-master in Graphic Design at the German University in Cairo, took three months to complete. The logo's aspect ratio is 6:2.3, with the letter 'E' serving as the unit of measurement. The main typeface, Roboto, was chosen for its modern and geometric qualities, creating harmony with the logo type.
Rana Hossam Gaber's extensive research journey involved collaboration with curators, Egyptologists, and archaeologists to understand the deeper meanings of hieroglyphs and their pronunciation. The project's creative and technical challenges were overcome by simplifying the design to bridge the gap between ancient history and modern relevance. The resulting corporate identity not only represents the museum's heritage but also introduces visitors to the world of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs through a contemporary lens.
