Beside Sacred Tree: Honoring Nature with Innovative Design

Located in the outskirts of Caotun, Taiwan, the Beside Sacred Tree project by Chung-Li Lee is a remarkable house design that pays homage to the natural landscape surrounding the 1600-year-old "Qigu sacred tree". The house, completed in 2019, is a testament to the designer's vision of blending modern architecture with the tranquility of nature.

The design concept revolves around honoring the green space and borrowing the breathtaking scenery, reminiscent of traditional Chinese garden strategies. The house, with its simple and neat white structure, features large openings that offer different views of the surrounding landscape. This unique approach transforms the white building into a stage, showcasing the majestic trees and their enchanting shadows.

Constructed using wood furniture, white walls, and warm-colored materials, the interior spaces of the house create a harmonious dialogue with the outdoors. The strategic use of big openings allows trees and sunlight to permeate the rooms, casting beautiful shadows on the white walls and creating a cozy and natural ambiance.

One of the remarkable features of the house is the dining area, where a dark-colored wooden table takes center stage, contrasting elegantly with the white surroundings and providing a tactile connection to the natural beauty outside.

The Beside Sacred Tree project spans 2000 square meters and stands as a testament to the designer's commitment to preserving the environment. The house occupies only a quarter of the land, with the remaining space carefully maintained to conserve the natural greenery and honor the original landscape.

Chung-Li Lee's Beside Sacred Tree project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach that meets professional and industrial requirements. The project is a true reflection of the designer's dedication to creating spaces that seamlessly integrate with their natural surroundings, offering fulfillment and positive experiences.
