Midori Yamazaki's "Sound of Magma" is a groundbreaking digital artwork that visualizes and makes audible the infrasound generated by natural phenomena, offering a unique sensory experience for audiences worldwide.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Inspired by the waves of infrasound caused by natural events, "Sound of Magma" aims to communicate the reproduction of the sixth sense to audiences, allowing them to perceive natural phenomena from a safe distance. This innovative artwork was launched globally in June 2022 and will be open to the public for a minimum of five years, with possible extensions.
Collaborating with the Earthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, Midori Yamazaki utilized programmed software to visualize and make audible the infrasound data measured during the eruption of Mount Yasur volcano, Tanna Island, Vanuatu. The resulting digital artworks, including videos and static images, offer a captivating exploration of nature's unseen forces.
By stimulating what could be called the sixth sense, the human sense of nature, "Sound of Magma" provides a unique opportunity for audiences to engage with and understand natural events that are typically beyond human perception. This project represents a significant advancement in sensory communication and the understanding of natural phenomena.
