Memoria: A New Chapter in Furniture Design

Sergio Sesmero introduces Memoria, a chair that defies traditional design boundaries, blending maximalist and minimalist concepts inspired by Magritte's work and the Hegelian dialectic. The chair's narrative revolves around revelation and concealment, aiming to transcend mere aesthetics and create a new visual language.

Memoria's strength lies in its innovative use of concrete fabric, a material typically reserved for civil constructions due to its durability and sustainability. The chair's creation involves a meticulous process, including 3D printed PLA molds and the application of Concrete Canvas, reinforced with epoxy resin for enhanced durability.

With dimensions of 1100mm x 900mm x 708mm, Memoria boasts impact resistance, waterproof properties, and a stable design, setting new standards for functional and sustainable furniture.

Sesmero's design philosophy extends beyond functionality, aiming to evoke mystery, reflection, and dialogue through Memoria. The chair prompts users to question and interpret its narrative, creating a sensory experience that adapts to different contexts and circumstances.

Originating from Madrid, Spain, the Memoria project commenced in September 2019 and concluded in September 2020. Sesmero's research into societal changes and their impact on design, coupled with a deep understanding of consumer behavior, culminated in the creation of Memoria.

Despite challenges in material selection and manipulation, Memoria stands as a testament to Sesmero's dedication to pushing the boundaries of design. This project represents a fusion of sustainability, functionality, and sensorial experiences, redefining the role of furniture in contemporary society.
