Hakka Culture Inspired Resort Hotel Design

Legang Sun, Songtao Meng, and Xiaoxue Ai designed Kanglaibo, a resort hotel in Baianshan National Forest Park, Jiangxi Province, inspired by the local Hakka culture. The hotel features a unique square enclosed building pattern, traditional Hakka woodcut artworks, and local specialty water grainstone, creating a distinctive space temperament.

The hotel boasts a hot spring bath in the air and each guest room, utilizing a hot spring water supply system centered on temperature control to ensure a unique tourist experience while effectively conserving natural hot spring resources. The hotel is a single-family building with a construction area of 16,000 square meters and 19 floors, featuring a vertical functional layout.

The hotel's functional design focuses on the integrity of supporting facilities and environmental comfort, including a front hall, service desk, lobby bar, breakfast restaurant, hotel catering area, main banquet hall, conference room, and guest rooms on different floors.

The hotel's unique lighting system, including a cubic water-featured chandelier in the lobby, streamlined chandeliers in the corridor, and artistic lamps, enhances the visual appeal of the space, creating a three-dimensional atmosphere.

The design project, which took place from March 2020 to June 2020, was completed in October 2020 in Pu'er, Yunnan, China. The hotel's hot spring bath in the air presented a creative and technical challenge, which the designers overcame by implementing innovative water flow control and insulation techniques to save natural hot spring resources.

Legang Sun, Songtao Meng, Xiaoxue Ai, and Yifeng Wang were the key members of the design team, and the design was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding and trendsetting characteristics that reflect the designers' prodigy and wisdom.
