Chen Wei Chun's Owndays project, inspired by the Rhino Exoskeleton, wins the Iron A' Design Award in 2022 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chen Wei Chun's Owndays project, inspired by the Rhino Exoskeleton, has been awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2022 for Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. The project, located in Taiwan Taipei, involved the renovation of a crowded and old space, including a living room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a laundry balcony space, totaling 25 ping (82 square meters).
The design aimed to optimize the relationship between space volume and the moving line, using material properties to improve tactility and visual stability. The project successfully created a balance between linearity and gauge blocks, with different functions and living spaces hidden in the dividing lines between leather and wall covering. The design direction followed the principle of "less is more," where function is form.
The project's unique features include large area leather adhesion and a flat and not sinking solution, addressing the challenge of improving a crowded and old space. The design team, led by Chen Wei Chun, overcame technical challenges such as working with large area artificial leather, wall covering, door panels, and titanium-plated metal inner walls.
