Yi Yin's Blue Ants project draws inspiration from China's Cultural Revolution, reimagining the political function of clothing through sustainable fashion and innovative textile design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yi Yin's Blue Ants project is a unique exploration of fashion and textile design, inspired by China's Cultural Revolution. The project focuses on transforming old clothes, utilizing cyanotype photography, and employing laser cutting techniques to create environmentally friendly and fashionable clothing.
The redesigned dark blue fabrics are sourced from the old blue overalls worn during the Cultural Revolution, while food stamps exclusive to that period are used to develop intricate designs. The project also incorporates cyanotype photography for printing, replacing traditional methods with sunlight to achieve a distinctive effect.
The laser-cut fabric offers a two-dimensional and three-dimensional transformation effect, following the body's contours. The project aims to disrupt the uniformity of the Cultural Revolution's clothing through innovative design and sustainable practices.
Yi Yin's Blue Ants project commenced in January 2022 in Jinan, China, and concluded in November 2022. The designer integrated various techniques, including cyanotype photography and laser cutting, to complete the fabrics, challenging traditional design norms.
Yi Yin, hailing from Shandong, China, has a penchant for merging oriental aesthetics with cutting-edge design concepts. The designer has received accolades, including a gold award in the Modern Shanghai International Fashion Design Competition and an excellence award in The 7th "Channel Cup" Fashion Design Competition.
