gad's groundbreaking design for Chongqing Nankai LiangJiang Secondary School redefines educational architecture with its innovative and efficient approach, completed in September 2018 in Chongqing, China.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chongqing Nankai LiangJiang Secondary School, designed by gad, introduces the concept of a "10-minute campus," where students can navigate the compact daily curriculum within 10 minutes. The school's main building, a circular structure, houses classrooms, offices, a library, a science hall, a theatre, and a school museum, promoting efficient interaction and learning.
The design integrates nature into the campus, with a forest grown within the main building, creating natural topography and fostering an environment where efficiency and curiosity coexist. The use of pre-fabricated steel structures and parametric design methods for the roof demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and innovation.
gad's design succeeded in overcoming the challenge of departing from traditional Chinese school layouts, creating a diverse campus where architectural structures, sporting facilities, ecological grounds, and natural gardens intertwine. The project was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its outstanding and trendsetting contributions to educational architecture.
