Monochromatic Tranquility in Residential Design

Kai Yueh Wang's "The Grey" is a residential design project that embraces the essence of life through a colorless space featuring black, grey, and white. The main wall, hand-brushed with special grey paint, conveys a rustic and idyllic atmosphere, while the bursting veins in the charcoal grey stone pattern on the floor evoke feelings of strength and reliability. The design utilizes various types of grey scale materials, such as special paint, stainless steel, and stone texture, to create a pure and stable sense of environment overlaid onto the color gradients that blend different shades of grey.

Unique to this design is the blending of white and warm-toned leather sofas and wood furnishings, which softens the rigid grey frame and warms up the space. The layout is rearranged to open up the public space, allowing uninterrupted sunlight into every corner of the house. The design also incorporates stainless-steel panels as doors for the shoe cabinet, providing a touch of eye-catching shine and a minimalist approach to storage solutions.

The project, completed in September 2021 in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, features an entrance, living room, dining room, kitchen, study room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms within its 90 square meter space. The design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2023 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative approach to residential interior design.
