Yoojin Jang Transforms Oksoo Elementary School Library into a Bright, Creative, and Innovative Education Space
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yoojin Jang, a renowned designer from Seoul, has successfully transformed the Oksoo Elementary School Library into a playground-like reading space for children. The project, sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, aimed to recreate old conventional facilities into creative and innovative education spaces. The library's unique design blurs the boundaries between playing and reading, providing a bright and welcoming atmosphere for young readers.
The library features various seating options, including desks, cushions, and heated floors, allowing children to read comfortably in a relaxed environment. To address the issue of strong sunlight interfering with reading, the design incorporates sky-blue painted ceilings, carefully selected lighting, and strategic placement of bookshelves to control natural light. The librarian's spacious and well-organized area offers an unobstructed view of the entire library, enhancing supervision and accessibility.
Despite budget constraints, the collaboration between the designer, school, and construction company resulted in a highly satisfactory space for students. The project, realized from May 2020 to March 2021, has earned Yoojin Jang the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category, recognizing the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design.
