Architectural Services Department Redefines Sports Centre Design with Urban Oasis Of Nexus
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Architectural Services Department has unveiled the Urban Oasis Of Nexus, a groundbreaking sports centre in the heart of Hong Kong. Inspired by the layout of a nearby temple, the design reimagines traditional sports centre architecture, creating a leisure pedestrian route that intertwines functional spaces, courtyards, and gardens. This innovative approach aims to provide an urban oasis for inter-generation enjoyment, where sports meet beautiful natural scenery.
The project serves as a sports hub in the neighborhood, offering a range of facilities for various age groups, including games arena, fitness room, dance room, activity rooms, and children's play area. In addition to active sports, the venue features courtyards and gardens designed to attract elderly visitors, providing a space for rest and light exercise. The design fosters dialogue and visual linkage between visitors, spaces, and adjacent natural sceneries, encouraging exploration and interaction.
Constructed near the Che Kung Temple Station in Shatin, Hong Kong, the sports centre is strategically located to serve as a meeting place for villagers and urban dwellers. The project also acts as a gateway to the Feng Shui hill behind, which holds spiritual significance for nearby villagers. The design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural setting, using passive environmental designs to reduce energy consumption and enhance the overall experience.
The project, which commenced construction in 2015 and was completed in 2019, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2021. This accolade highlights the exceptional innovation and expertise demonstrated in the design, showcasing a remarkable level of excellence and introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
