Designing a Vacation House with Boutique Hotel Quality

Yu-Wen Chiu (Vita) drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the site to create a strong personal style vocabulary within the interior space of Space Stack. The project aimed to seamlessly integrate the surrounding scenery into the interior and echo outdoor landscape features. By simplifying space lines and colors, including hidden door panels, the design achieved an implicit yet tension-filled atmosphere.

What sets Space Stack apart is its ability to accommodate visiting guests, reflecting the owners' hospitable nature and frequent gathering party needs. Emphasizing overall space quality akin to a boutique hotel, the design achieves a visually refreshing and comfortable atmosphere, making it ideal for a vacation house.

Utilizing stone, iron, solid wood, glass, mirror, and parquet wood flooring, the design measures 10620mmx20440mmx3280mm. The living room's main wall features grey marble to accentuate the visual sense, while the stone's luster texture and reflective characteristics enhance the visual extension and enlarge the sense of space.

Before the construction design, two alternatives were proposed, with the final choice emphasizing adult usability. The bedroom continues the natural elements of the public area, incorporating stone pieces commonly used in construction as a performance of the bedside facade, reminiscent of the client's hometown in Indonesia.

Yu-Wen Chiu (Vita) hails from Taipei City, Taiwan (China), and the Space Stack design was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2020, showcasing outstanding expertise and innovation in interior space, retail, and exhibition design.
