Costa Smeralda introduces CoDe, the Costa Design Museum, a celebration of modern Italian design and culture, crowning the 3,300-cabin ship with a unique and unifying feature.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Costa Smeralda, the new cruise ship, proudly presents CoDe, the Costa Design Museum, a groundbreaking addition as the first design museum on a cruise ship. Conceived by renowned designers Adam D. Tihany and Matteo Vercelloni, CoDe serves as the metropolitan epicenter of the ship, celebrating modern Italian design and culture. The museum was introduced in December 2019 as a permanent feature of the ship, providing guests with an interactive and engaging experience.
As the first design museum on a cruise ship, CoDe showcases 470 exhibits that connect to the history of Made in Italy, serving as true points of reference for Italy's global influence from the 1930s to the present. The museum's highly contemporary stainless steel portal, designed to meet the challenges of high traffic space, invites guests to step into the Bel Paese through the most iconic Italian designs.
Located in a high traffic area onboard Costa Smeralda, CoDe is designed around a walking path portal made up of a series of stainless steel arches. This design encourages guests to return to the museum many times throughout their trip, discovering more of the CoDe collection of iconic Italian design and culture at each visit. The museum was designed by Tihany Design and curated by Matteo Vercelloni with Paola Gallo, featuring graphic design by Cristina Menotti and movie selection by Roberto Dassoni.
CoDe, the Costa Design Collection, captures the spirit of âItalian tasteâ through a selection of objects, furnishings, fashion items, artifacts, and anecdotes, intricately connected to the history of Made in Italy. This innovative and high design concept provides Costa Smeralda guests with a meaningful and fun cultural experience, allowing them to interact with and learn from the museum during the duration of their time onboard.
