Chika Kakazu designed a one-of-a-kind marathon T-shirt for a special customization event in Tokyo, Japan, aiming to reward and engage with global marathon runners.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chika Kakazu's Marathon T-Shirt design is a unique and innovative approach to engaging with marathon runners. The design features minimal icons related to the concepts of marathon, runner, and Tokyo, reflecting the spirit of the event. These icons were created as shimmer/metallic heat transfer labels using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, allowing for customization on T-shirts during the event.
The purpose of this T-shirt customization event was to create a special reward for marathon runners and increase awareness of the cafe hosting the event. The T-shirts were offered as complimentary gifts to all marathon attendees, who could apply their target or finish time and select their favorite icons for customization. This personalized approach aimed to make the T-shirt a memorable and unique keepsake for runners from around the world.
Chika Kakazu's design process involved extensive research on Tokyo and marathon themes to ensure the icons were universally appealing to a global audience. The designer's focus on simplicity and intelligibility made the design attractive to marathon runners from diverse backgrounds.
Chika Kakazu, along with designer Krisakorn Tantitemit, executed the event in Tokyo, Japan, from February 28th to March 4th, 2019. The unique approach to T-shirt customization received recognition, as the design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2022, highlighting its practicality, innovation, and professional quality.
