Grzegorz KÅoda's Bioteka project, a personalized branch of the Municipal Public Library in Lublin, is a groundbreaking initiative fully dedicated to ecology, located in the heart of Lublin, Poland.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Grzegorz KÅoda's Bioteka project, known as "probably the greenest library in Europe," is a unique and fully dedicated ecological library located in the center of Lublin, Poland. Inspired by the successful revitalization of the 19th century Saxon Garden, Bioteka serves as a year-round extension of the Garden, promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development through its educational mission. The library's interior architecture and didactic program are both inspired by nature, emphasizing the promotion of an ecological lifestyle and the idea of sustainable development.
The project's materials, including recycled wood, greenery collected from Lublin citizens, a water wall, and concrete, reflect the natural inspiration drawn from the Saski Garden. Bioteka covers an area of 453 square meters and houses a collection of almost 30 thousand books, making it a modern and "green" cultural institution actively propagating ecological ideas in the heart of the city.
Despite facing social pressure and high expectations due to the historical significance of its location, Bioteka has become a symbol of sustainable development and community engagement. Grzegorz KÅoda's innovative approach to library design, based on user needs analysis and direct input from librarians, has resulted in a unique and impactful cultural space that resonates with the local community.
