Ivana Lukovic's Innovative Residential House Design

Inspired by the industrial feel of traditional stone stables in the Peloponnese rural areas, architect Ivana Lukovic has created a unique residential house that seamlessly blends into its surroundings while offering modern comfort and sustainability. The project, located in Kalamia, Greece, was completed in July 2019 and has since provided a safe retreat for its inhabitants, even during the 2020 pandemic.

The design's strength lies in its ability to harmonize with the natural landscape, utilizing reclaimed local stone, grey roof tiles, and other natural materials sourced within a 100-mile radius of the construction site. The house, with its humble street-side appearance, unfolds into a two-level construction from the garden, offering an observation platform for stargazing and breathtaking views of the sea.

Despite the challenges of building in a remote village with restricted means, Lukovic's team, including collaborators Alexandra Arampatzi, Kostas Geranios, and Orestis Mpormpantonakis, successfully realized the project, creating a bespoke, low-budget house that prioritizes sustainability and contemporary rural living.
