Waves: A Stylish and Ergonomic Modular Closet Design

Hasan Özkul introduces Waves, a 7-piece modular cabinet unit made of lacquered wood, standing at 1800mm in height. This unique closet design draws inspiration from the designer's childhood memories by the Mediterranean Sea, capturing a frozen moment of a wave about to disappear on the shore. The ergonomic furniture offers flexible shelf adjustments, large drawers, and a sliding shirt hanger, all designed to experiment with logic and aesthetics while meeting the main necessities of a wardrobe. The push-to-open system enhances the clean-cut sculptural attitude, shaping the user experience.

The project, which started in Iskenderun in July 2021 and concluded in Istanbul in November 2021, challenges conventional closet designs by offering a monumental yet functional piece of furniture that interacts seamlessly with its environment. The design's unique features and strengths lie in its ability to provide sufficient storage space while serving as a statement piece in any room. The hand-painted matte blue interior and exterior further emphasize the inspiration drawn from water, creating a visually striking and utilizable surface.

Waves was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design that authentically captures the experience and resourcefulness of the designer. This prestigious accolade celebrates the incorporation of best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
