Lotus-Inspired Retirement Living Residence "Dan Mo" Reflects Pure Living Mindset

Ta-Hsiu Lee's "Dan Mo" is a retirement living residence that embodies a pure living mindset, inspired by the metaphor of a pristine lotus emerging from the earth. The design reflects the owner's outlook on life, with architectural elements portraying the overlapping petals of a lotus and a parallel pattern, symbolizing simplicity and tranquility.

The mortar used on the surface is carefully deployed to achieve a unique texture and pattern, making it tougher, denser, and resistant to pollution and corrosion from the elements. The project covers an area of 440 square meters and was completed in Taichung in February 2020.

Lee's design approach prioritizes minimal material consumption, with no surface treatment or cladding applied to the building surfaces inside and out, showcasing a commitment to material minimization over conventional green material utilization.

The interior design features a circular path on the first floor, promoting fluidity and connectivity among different functional spaces, creating an environment conducive to family and friendly interactions. The second floor's layout radiates from the family room, ensuring optimal family interactions across every room.

By applying detailed patterns onto the flat concrete, Lee avoids dullness and creates an environment of enduring comfort. The design challenges common perceptions by incorporating cuboid elements on the tilted rooftop, creating a visually striking and light-filled three-floor building.

CHEN-WAI Architecture Integrated Design Co.,Ltd., founded in 2011, focuses on space design that fosters human relationships. Ta-Hsiu Lee's "Dan Mo" has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award, celebrating its exceptional technical characteristics and artistic skill.
