RiutBag X35: Secure Origami Backpack for Urban Travel

Sarah Giblin, the founder of UK urban product design company Riut, introduces the RiutBag X35, a revolutionary secure origami backpack designed to address the security and flexibility needs of urban travelers. Inspired by the realities of city travel, the RiutBag X35 is a two-in-one travel backpack that changes shape to accommodate the varying capacity requirements of the user. It is designed to provide a secure and adaptable solution for the urban commuter and frequent flyer.

The RiutBag X35 is crafted from 1000D nylon waterproof cordura and features waterproof thermoplastic polyurethane and YKK zips, ensuring durability and security. The backpack's unique origami folding mechanism allows it to expand from a compact 15-litre laptop backpack for daily commuting to a spacious 40-litre backpack that meets the maximum airline cabin allowance. The design places a strong emphasis on security, with all zips positioned against the wearer's back to prevent unauthorized access while traveling.

Designed and prototyped in Manchester, England, the RiutBag X35 project commenced in March 2019 and was successfully funded on Kickstarter in June 2019. The first production was completed in November 2019, marking a significant milestone in revolutionizing urban travel accessories. The RiutBag X35 has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in Fashion and Travel Accessories Design in 2020, underscoring its exceptional innovation and technical excellence.
