Tai Side Table: Redefining Furniture Design with Upcycled Materials

SUNRIU Design proudly presents the Tai Side Table, a remarkable piece of furniture that redefines the concept of upcycling. Inspired by the iconic lines of IM Pei's The Luce Chapel, this side table is not only a testament to creativity but also a sustainable solution for furniture production. The project commenced in June 2022 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and has since garnered accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2023.

Utilizing retired substation metal sheets, the Tai Side Table stands out for its eco-economical approach. By employing laser cutting and bending techniques, the design minimizes waste and production time, offering a beautiful and functional piece that aligns with the principles of a circular economy. Measuring 450mm x 350mm x 550mm, this minimalist furniture piece boasts a unique feature that allows temporary book placement without the need for bookmarks, along with a versatile tabletop that can be replaced with various materials, transforming it into a low table or bench.

The Tai Side Table not only showcases exceptional craftsmanship but also addresses critical environmental concerns. By effectively utilizing retired substation metal plates, SUNRIU Design aims to extend the service life of materials and reduce the burden on the environment. The design's simple exterior and lines make it suitable for a wide range of interiors and even outdoor use, further enhancing its versatility and appeal.
