"Note" Bench: Redefining Public Seating with Interactive and Expressive Features

Bulent Unal's "Note" bench is a visionary addition to public spaces, offering a unique blend of functionality and creativity. The bench's rotating covers, made of stainless steel, provide an innovative canvas for individuals to leave notes, draw figures, and express their feelings, creating memorable scenes and fostering social interaction. The design, conceptualized in September 2019 and completed in December 2020, aims to break the monotony of urban furniture and enhance socialization in public areas.

The "Note" bench's top surface, consisting of 7x27 circles, allows users to rotate the covers to reveal two different colors, making it suitable for text or pattern use. This interactive element not only encourages creative expression but also prevents rainwater accumulation, resulting in ever-changing color textures after rainfall. The bench, recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award, stands 45 cm above the ground, with a sitting area measuring 150 cm x 50 cm, and features a total of 189 rotating covers.

Unal's design research focused on the role of urban furniture in enabling socialization and enhancing daily life experiences. The "Note" bench not only serves as a functional seating solution but also contributes to the communication environment by allowing individuals to convey messages and manifestos in public spaces. This innovative approach to urban furniture earned the "Note" bench the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award, highlighting its outstanding creativity, technical prowess, and positive impact on quality of life.
