Suzhou Creek Transformation

Renowned designer Lao Xue has revealed the transformation of the Suzhou Creek waterfront and the East China University of Political Science and Law campus in Shanghai. The project, which began in March 2021 and concluded in September 2021, aims to create a high-quality public space and open important node areas along the coast.

The design covers an area of approximately 93600㎡, with a waterfront landscape stretching about 900 meters along the river. The project's goal is to shape the campus into the most open public space along the Suzhou River, with an elegant historical style and beautiful landscape.

The design fully utilizes the existing resources, combining the campus with the riverside footpath and highlighting the architectural style of national treasures. The project aims to optimize the riverside landscape quality, excavate the humanistic elements of the campus, and activate the riverside humanistic space.

Lao Xue and the design team overcame various challenges, including demolishing modern buildings with poor style, expanding the riverside area, and eliminating height differences through gentle slopes to increase pedestrian space. The project also incorporates an intelligent and controllable security system to ensure the safety of the campus while serving the citizens to the greatest extent.

Lao Xue's design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2022, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious approach that contributes to quality of life improvements.
