Yunnan Restaurant Design: Gao Wei

Steven Hu's award-winning restaurant design, Gao Wei, seamlessly blends traditional Yunnan architecture with futuristic elements, creating a visually striking and trendy space. The 1100-square-meter project in Kunming, completed in March 2019, reflects a fusion of modern design with classical elements, showcasing the diverse elements of Yunnan in an urban setting.

The restaurant's interior, designed by Steven Hu and his team, embodies Yunnan's ethnic characteristics while incorporating fashionable elements, aiming to create a space that resonates with the modern city. The design utilizes different materials and colors to delineate functional areas, reducing physical partitions and enhancing the overall sense of space.

Challenges such as the project's location on the third floor of a commercial mall were overcome through the use of rich and varied visual effects on the exterior facade, establishing seamless indoor-outdoor interaction to attract diners. The design team's focus on highlighting the virtual and real space with delicate visual presentation resulted in a flexible and comfortable dining environment, deviating from the traditional impression of Yunnan-style restaurants.
