CASTELLAR: Tailoring Tool Storage

Fang Shih's CASTELLAR is a revolutionary magnetic storage solution designed to provide a clean and efficient working environment for tailors. Inspired by the historical significance of tailor ladies in Taiwan, CASTELLAR integrates the storage of appliances, improving not only the efficiency but also the professional image of tailors. The magnetic storage containers are designed to be placed on the sewing machine, keeping the desktop clean while working and providing effective storage for different tailoring tools.

One of the unique features of CASTELLAR is the storage of shuttles in the bridge part, reducing the storage area of the desk and allowing tailors to store a group of shuttles needed at one time. Needles are adsorbed on the box part by magnetic force, and the downward concave cone prevents users' hands from being stabbed when taking out the needles, while also classifying different needles with four surfaces.

The project, which took place in Taiwan from September 2017 to January 2018, was driven by the aim to create an orderly and convenient working environment for tailors. Fang Shih's research revealed that the traditional tailor's profession was respected in Taiwan, but the crowded and messy working spaces led to a low willingness to learn among young people. CASTELLAR aims to address these challenges by providing an efficient and organized solution for tailors.

Fang Shih's CASTELLAR has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category in 2020. The award acknowledges the practical and innovative nature of CASTELLAR, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
