Obon: Handmade Ceramic Tables for Moooi

Simone Bonanni introduces Obon, a collection of three tables designed for Moooi, inspired by the ancient, earthy material of terra-cotta. Each piece is handmade, ensuring its uniqueness, and is made of ceramic with a glazed top, providing a natural and gently imperfect tone.

The tables’ design is a result of a patient process of combining shapes and volumes, blending graphical purity into the structure of ceramics. The choice of terracotta came naturally with the drawings and outlines of the tables, aiming to introduce a series of objects that appeared to be handmade, creating a natural and gently imperfect tone.

The Obon tables are small versatile coffee tables with simple and soft silhouettes, suitable for various interior design projects. The thick base is filled with raw material during the production process to provide stability, while the glazed finish on the top surface ensures easy cleaning and preserves its genuine beauty.

Exhibited at Salone del Mobile in April 2018, the Obon tables were the result of a project that started six months prior in Nove, a town in the Veneto region famous for its ceramics. The design process involved extensive research and experimentation with different finishes, led by Simone Bonanni and expert ceramicist Luigi Bertapelle.

Simone Bonanni Studio (SBS) is a multidisciplinary design studio established in 2015 in Milan. SBS has a particular attention to the great communicative power of objects and considers them as “activators of emotions” before being just physical entities. SBS is currently working on projects for selected international brands such as Alessi, Moooi, MDF Italia, FIAM, Falper, Mingardo, and more.
