Phoenix Tree Garden: Redefining Traditional Garden Concepts

Atelier ZZ's Phoenix Tree Garden, conceptualized by Qingfan Zhang and Bo Zhang, reimagines traditional garden elements to create a new architectural space with a poetic nod to classical gardens. The design features a series of meticulously crafted relationships between various elements, such as canals and clouds, pavilions and waterways, and rocks and waterfalls, offering a contemporary yet evocative ambiance.

The garden's unique properties are realized through the use of red rock laminar stack, light-transparent steel grille bridges, and gray and colored cobblestone and tile paving, which collectively infuse the space with an authentic and serene atmosphere.

One of the key challenges overcome during the project was transforming the base's courtyard structures and integrating the existing house's demolition into the new landscape order. This was achieved through innovative design interventions, including the incorporation of folding walls and moon doors to redefine the internal space axis.

Qingfan Zhang's design philosophy, characterized by a modern and concise aesthetic spirit, has earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2020 for the Phoenix Tree Garden. Her commitment to deconstructing spatial connotations and pushing design boundaries has resulted in a series of remarkable and award-winning works.
