83 Bands: A Modern Bar Inspired by Dionysus's Return

Rui Yang's 83 Bands project is a modern bar located at No.38 Donghu Road, Shanghai. The design draws inspiration from the feeling of Dionysus's return to the sleeping chambers during sunset, creating a space that exudes elegance and modernity. The project commenced in October 2018 and was completed in February 2019, showcasing a meticulous attention to detail and a focus on creating a unique ambiance for patrons.

The major highlight of 83 Bands is its innovative lighting design. Equipped with RGB digital dimming lamps, the bar's lighting can transform into fifty thousand colors, allowing for customizable ambiance to suit different activities within the space. The use of materials such as cement, stainless steel, Changhong glass, terrazzo, mirror, and sound-absorbed plywood adds to the modern and sophisticated aesthetic of the bar.

One of the notable challenges in the project was achieving the desired twilight effect through lighting. By utilizing RGB digital color-matching lights and programming presets, the design team successfully recreated the dynamic effect of light breathing, closely resembling the colors of a sunset. This attention to detail and creativity sets 83 Bands apart as a truly unique and captivating space.
