Anqi Zhao's "The Emperor's New Gem" is a contemporary jewelry design that challenges materialism and celebrates simplicity.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Anqi Zhao's "The Emperor's New Gem" is a modern jewelry collection inspired by the fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes." The design seeks to convey a message of contentment and appreciation beyond material desires. The earrings, crafted using metalworking and inlay craftsmanship, feature a unique three-dimensional structure supported by a single wire, creating a visually striking and distinctive piece.
The earrings, made of s925 silver, boast a "None Gem" gemstone holder with a surface frosting treatment, adding to the design's uniqueness. Measuring 66mm long and 25mm wide, the earrings are a testament to contemporary and modern jewelry, showcasing the fusion of geometry and metalworking.
These earrings interact with light and space to create captivating visual effects from every angle, offering a unique viewing experience. The project commenced in December 2019 in Beijing and concluded in April 2020 in Wuhan, with meticulous attention to detail and structural form.
Anqi Zhao, along with TianYi Zhang, meticulously researched and developed this design, aiming to challenge misconceptions about the value of jewelry based solely on gemstones and complex shapes. The project's unique challenge lay in achieving consistency in the perspective of each product due to its handmade nature. The team overcame this by adjusting the structural form and spatial display, ensuring that the design itself took center stage.
Recognizing the innovative and practical nature of "The Emperor's New Gem," Anqi Zhao was honored with the Iron A' Design Award in 2021, a testament to the design's creativity and industry relevance.
