SSP Rüthnick Architekten revitalizes 1960s Bornemann town hall into modern Jobcenter Berlin, earning prestigious A' Design Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SSP Rüthnick Architekten has successfully transformed the 1960s Bornemann town hall in Berlin, Germany, into a modern Jobcenter Berlin, earning the esteemed Iron A' Design Award in 2022. The revitalization project, realized between 2013-2018, involved an energetic upgrade of the facades, modernization of building technology, and preservation of the draft character of Fritz Bornemann, creating a striking example of preserving a building from the post-war modern era.
The conversion of the listed ensemble involved extensive repairs and rebuilding to meet the space requirements of the new users. The project's unique focus on preserving the original design while updating it to the latest technological standards sets it apart.
Notable features of the transformation include the renewal of window elements to meet current energy and building physics requirements, as well as the preservation of exposed masonry walls in the hallways. The project's success lies in its ability to integrate industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
