Primary Residence: Typographic Exploration of Bauhaus Architecture

Tianzhen Evleen Huang's Primary Residence is a captivating exploration of Bauhaus architecture through typography. Drawing inspiration from the Bauhaus Movement and architectural elements such as stairs and windows from around the world, including the fire escapes of old buildings in New York City and urban windows in European cities, this project reimagines the alphabet as abstract representations of architectural forms.

Each letter and number in Primary Residence embodies a small part of a building, inviting viewers to use their imagination to discern entry and existence. The design seamlessly integrates the principles of Bauhaus architecture and minimalism, aiming to blend the form and identities of the structures together. The use of primary colors further accentuates the visual impact of the design.

Realized through sketches on paper based on real architecture photography, Primary Residence offers a unique perspective on typographic architecture. When applied to products, each letter design is given a unique identifying number, adding a layer of individuality to the project.

This archetype style allows viewers to gain a deeper appreciation of abstract buildings, with the stairs, windows, and geometric shapes all paying homage to Bauhaus architecture and Minimalist building principles. The project's creative journey began in March 2020 in New Jersey, where the fusion of typography and architecture took shape.

Recognized with the esteemed Golden A' Design Award in 2021, Primary Residence stands as a testament to Tianzhen Evleen Huang's prodigious talent and innovative vision.
