Mist: Redefining Humidifiers with Environmental-Friendly Packaging

Xiaochen Wang, along with the design team members Hua Yang and Teng Zhang, introduced Mist, a revolutionary humidifier that integrates environmental protection with product functionality. The unique feature of Mist lies in its packaging, which is an essential part of the product itself. Discarding the packaging renders the humidifier inoperable, emphasizing the designer's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Unlike traditional humidifiers, Mist controls the mist output through a manual trigger mechanism, offering a refreshing departure from electronic control. The design utilizes ABS and PE plastic, showcasing a visually appealing and functional approach to product realization. The white material choice enhances the user experience, evoking a sense of cleanliness and purity.

The project commenced in Zhengzhou in July 2019 and concluded in November 2019, marking a significant milestone in innovative product design. Wang's design process involved extensive research, incorporating unconscious design, affordance design, and environmental design principles to create a truly distinctive product.
