Introducing Torus, the innovative fan designed by Dosun Shin that offers a sustainable and efficient way to circulate and cool the air in any space. This groundbreaking design provides 360° air flow, simultaneously cooling multiple individuals while minimizing noise. Torus is set to revolutionize the way we experience cooling and comfort.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dosun Shin's Torus is a revolutionary fan that redefines air circulation. Inspired by the Venus flower basket, the fan's outer shell is crafted from flexible yet durable glass fibers, forming a cylinder that allows for 360° air flow. This innovative design utilizes cutting-edge DC motors developed by LG, providing efficient and sustainable air circulation.
Standing at 18 inches in height and 10.5 inches in diameter, Torus is equipped with two motors that enable 360° air flow, ensuring continuous cooling for multiple individuals. The fan's unique vent design and advanced motor technology aim to minimize noise production, prioritizing user comfort.
The project, which commenced in August 2018 at Arizona State University, culminated in May 2019. Dosun Shin and the design team, including Seyla Muise, Andrew Htoon, and Hannah Skogebo, sought to revolutionize the stagnant air circulation market, which has seen minimal innovation over the past 130 years.
Traditional fans have been limited to one-directional air flow, leading to inefficient air circulation within spaces. Torus addresses this challenge by offering a sustainable and efficient solution, circulating air in 360 degrees without oscillation. This groundbreaking approach aims to enhance comfort and cooling efficiency, overcoming the limitations of conventional standalone fans.
Dosun Shin, an Associate Professor of industrial design at Arizona State University, has leveraged his expertise and professional experience to create Torus. His research focuses on the "humanization of technology," with a specific emphasis on developing assistive devices for individuals with physical limitations.
