Eisuke Yamazaki Unveils a Small Residential Building in the Heart of Tokyo, Japan
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Eisuke Yamazaki, in collaboration with Toshio Yoshikawa and Hiroshi Sakaguchi, presents the KIBA Tokyo Residence, a groundbreaking architectural endeavor that reimagines small-scale urban living. The project, completed in 2019, is a seven-story reinforced-concrete structure that seamlessly integrates residential and retail spaces, spanning 385.52 sqm in the metropolitan area of Tokyo, Japan.
The KIBA Tokyo Residence is a testament to innovative design, aiming to revitalize the classic Japanese landscape lost to modernization. By harmonizing with the historic site known for lumber dealings, the building embodies new values and lifestyles while showcasing the heritage of Edo Tokyo Kiba. The unique maisonnette style housing and wooden louvers contribute to the creation of a rich atmosphere and spaces, setting a new standard for global architecture.
Despite the challenges of constructing a seven-story building on a small, fragile site, the project successfully realizes a diverse community within the city center, offering housing options for individuals, couples, and families. The design not only addresses the need for small-scale residences in urban areas but also endeavors to recreate the lost landscape of KIBA, Tokyo, providing a glimpse into the city's historical and cultural significance.
