Yu-Lung Lee's innovative residential design, "Yearning for Home," breaks traditional spatial arrangements to create an open-end space that reflects simplicity and modernity. Completed in August 2020 in Daxi Township, Taoyuan City, this design redefines the concept of home living.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yu-Lung Lee's "Yearning for Home" challenges conventional residential design by creating an open-end space that emphasizes simplicity and modernity. The design features preserved walls, a trap door design, curves, and color contrast, all complemented by expansive windows that fill the space with natural light. The innovative spatial arrangement allows for a more expansive structure, with only one bedroom area connecting to the secondary bedroom.
The public area is designed with diagonal methods, counters, and dining tables that also function as working tables, offering a unique blend of private and open space. The use of cement paints, wooden pieces, and various lighting elements contributes to the design's distinctive aesthetic.
Curved designs and mottled grey cement paints soften beam-columns and area divisions, creating a dynamic and visually engaging environment. The design also incorporates arc-shaped elements to prevent the feeling of right angles, while linear lighting embedded throughout the space enhances the atmosphere, especially during the night.
One of the notable features of "Yearning for Home" is the integration of commercial demands within the residential space. The public area includes working areas with embedded electric sockets for added convenience. Additionally, the design includes innovative solutions such as a specially planned area for a robot vacuum, allowing for seamless cleaning without disrupting the space's functionality.
Throughout the design process, Yu-Lung Lee overcame various challenges, including the precise matching of client-preferred tile sizes and the height of the counter to accommodate imported tiles. The result is a harmonious and visually balanced space that reflects the designer's commitment to pure and unrestrained concepts.
