Iestyn Davies, a glassmaker and lighting designer, unveils Translucence, a bespoke pendant light that combines traditional craft-based techniques with contemporary LED cob technology, offering a luxury aesthetic.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Iestyn Davies, a renowned glassmaker and lighting designer, draws inspiration from traditional craft-based techniques to create Translucence, a bespoke pendant light that seamlessly integrates contemporary LED cob technology. The goal is to explore the unique properties of variable thickness optical glass and experiment with the interplay between natural and integral light, ultimately offering a luxury aesthetic.
What sets Translucence apart is its individuality; each pendant light is a unique bespoke object, subtly different from the next. The intricate central section, crafted from laser-cut acrylic, not only enhances the light source but also offers precision, detail, and durability. The design allows for standalone use or as part of a multi-array feature chandelier, with future plans for wall and desk variations.
The realization of Translucence involved extensive experimentation with LED cob tape packaging, acrylic laser-cut variations, and hot glass forms. The delicate laser-cut centers, combined with the hand-blown 0% lead crystal glass, create a captivating aesthetic that captures the essence of the designer's vision.
